I'm a little sad right now. This blog may be on its last leg. At the end of my last post, Google sent me a warning that I had reached the maximum memory that my site could handle. I can now pay/month to have a blog. (I will not be doing that!)
I'm not sure if I will quit blogging altogether or start a new blog. I will be sure to update if that is what I decide to do.

End of Summer 2012

Whew...the last few weeks have been CRAZY busy! We have had Jackson's birthday and birthday party, VBS, vacation, family come in to town, and now getting ready for a new school year. Just trying to get the old blog caught here we go!

I took a week off work to teach Vacation Bible School at our church. I was with the Kindergartners and can I go ahead and give Kindergarten teachers props. I was exhausted everyday when we got home. I love to see what they learned everyday and how sweet their child-like faith was.
Thursday after VBS, we left town and headed to St. Louis. To say the boys were excited would be an understatement. Every sign that we saw on the highway, Jackson needed to point it out. "Hey Mom, there's a sign." "Daddy did you see that?". For five hours, we needed to tell him what every sign said.
We stopped halfway there in Sikeston to eat at Lambert's Cafe.
We caught some rolls and filled our bellies and we were on our way to finish our trip.
Friday morning, we woke up bright and early to go to Six Flags. (I love the kid in the green shirt that is in our picture!) We had a blast at Six Flags. They boys loved seeing the characters.
Jackson was able to ride some of the "big kid" rides and he loved them. I can't wait to ride the "really big kid" rides with him when he gets a bit bigger.
While Jason and Jackson rode the rides, Hudson and I got to hang out and wait for them.
We went to the water park right before dinner to cool down a bit and then headed back to ride some more. We were there from the opening of the park until close.
We finished the night by riding the Ferris Wheel as the sunset.
Can you tell that I am holding on for dear life?
So what, we had ice cream for dinner at 9:00? It was quite possibly the most yummy ice cream I have ever eaten!
The next day we ate lunch at Fitz's, a local root beer bottling company. Jason got the root beer...
...and Jackson chose the orange soda.
The boy really enjoyed watching the machines bottle the root beer. It was such a neat place. When we were done with lunch, we went to City Museum.
What a crazy place. The day we went was SO HOT and SO CROWDED. We will definitely go back, but must be cooler and less crowded next time. We didn't get to explore as much as we would have liked to.
The boys loved the huge ball pit...
 ...and the skateboard room.
We enjoyed climbing. The boys were so proud of themselves.
The boys loved this giant playground.
That night we headed to the arch and then to dinner. We had the best time hanging out as a family. We came back to Memphis exhausted and ready to head into the school year.

5th Birthday Party...An Olympic Event

I had been racking my brain for a while about what kind of party I would throw for Jackson. If you have been reading this blog for long, you know I go crazy for a theme. Jackson got very into the Olympic trials and cheering for Michael Phelps, so Olympics was perfect. I had to get my creative juices flowing since you can't just go out and buy Olympic party supplies at Party City. (Thankfully, lots of 4th of July stuff was on sale and Target's dollar spot came through again!)
I love the way my Mom's entryway turned out (We have birthday parties at their house because it is so much bigger than ours). It is so patriotic and FUN! I am also loving the Olympic torch that she found.
I drew this for the Chalkboard door.
The birthday boy LOVED the theme and all the decorations. He was ready for his friends and family to come party with him.
Loving the sunglasses and the t-shirts. (Thanks Target!)
Once the kids arrived, my Mom and I (the Olympic officials) were in charge of a few games.
We played "Olympic Ring" toss...
...and had a relay race.
I saw competitive-ness come out of some of these kids...mostly the boys!
It was time for cake and ice cream...
...and presents.
My favorite part of kid parties is opening presents. They all start out sitting and the more presents you open, the closer they are, to the point where they are opening presents themselves. It's hilarious!
After presents, it was time for some water events. First up, was shot put (or water balloons).
In true Haynes fashion, you can't have a holiday or party without something going wrong. We had weeks of drought in Memphis with 100 + temps. We decided to order an inflatable water slide for the kids to play on. Well, wouldn't you know that the 7 days leading up to the party were full of rain. The company called the morning of, while it was pouring down rain, and we decided to cancel the rental. During the party, we didn't have any rain, so we had to go to our back up plan...a slip-in-slide for our "100 meter swim". The kids didn't care, they had a blast racing each other and sliding around.
We did a little archery (water shooters)....
...and just had FUN!
I love these girls. I'm so thankful our kids our growing up together!
The kids all received gold medals for doing a great job during our Olympic games...
...and my friend Anna made these adorable Olympic cookies for their party favors. I added the gold medal tags to finish them off. His party was truly perfect...he still talks about it almost every day. Now, to plan Hudson's party in November! =)

Jackson's 5th Birthday Happenings

Jackson's 5th birthday was on Friday, July 6th. Since his birthday party was scheduled for the next weekend, we had some fun things planned for him. Friday, we took cupcakes to his friends at school. He put much thought into what kind of cupcakes he gave his friends. (Every time we are at the grocery, he looks at the cupcakes and thinks about what he will bring them. Seriously, he has done this for months.) He decided on Batman cupcakes with different icing. He even chose some with pink icing so the girls would be happy.
 Mommy and the birthday boy.
Daddy was off work, so he got to come to the birthday party too. Jackson was SO excited to see his Daddy.
When we got home, he got to open his presents. He got a Beyblade starter kit from Mommy and Daddy, and a Beyblade from Hudson...
...and a Gibson's Donuts shirt from Mrs. Betsy. (This shirt is so cool and if you wear it to Gibson's, you get a free donut!)
Friday evening, he got to choose where he wanted to eat for dinner. He wanted Red Robin. We invited his Mimi and Buddy and Shawn and Darris. (I just love this picture!)
They sang "Happy Birthday" and Jackson was mortified!
He did like that they gave him a birthday ice cream sundae!
He also had left-over cupcakes from school. Boy, they needed their faces washed after eating blue and green cupcakes!
We have had a tradition for the last few years that the birthday kid gets "birthday cinnamon rolls" for their special breakfast. This year, we went a different route. We ordered a Texas donut from Gibson's Donuts. Oh. My. Word...we definitely have a new birthday breakfast tradition! (Jason, remember I will be 30 this year. Don't you think this would be perfect for me too?)
Jackson thought that the whole donut was for him! He was gracious and shared his yummy goodness. We went swimming that afternoon to burn all the sugar we had consumed from the last few meals. I would bet money that Jackson say he had a wonderful 5th birthday weekend.
