"Ice Storm" 2010

*Pics from our frozen tundra. Our Memphis flag is even a solid sheet of ice!

Brrr...I think I am frozen to the core, but we have had some fun today! Yesterday, Jackson wanted to go out SO bad but it was still coming down and I just wasn't feeling it (I know, I know...bad Mommy). This morning however, I was so tired of being stuck in the house. I bundled him up and out we went.
Jackson was wearing so many layers. (long john top and bottoms, long sleeved shirt, fleece pants, ski coveralls, ski jacket, a John Deere toboggan, 2 pairs of socks, and fireman boots...Did I go overboard?)
He needed to take his chainsaw out so he could cut down some trees!
We had a "dusting" of snow 2 weeks ago but I didn't take Hudson out in it because he was still so little and it wasn't a very impressive snow. Today, he got to come outside with big brother. You can tell by the look on his face that he is not really a fan of the cold. (I'm not a bad mom, he was outside for 3 minutes and very bundled up and then he went back inside.)
*Mommy and Hudson
"Ahh Mom, this is better."

Jackson is taking a nap right now. I know when he wakes up we will be going back out in it. I think we may try to go to the park down the street and go sledding (We don't have a sled, I think we will use a laundry basket. Hey, you've got to improvise!) I'm seeing a warm bath in my future!

Sick Day

The Haynes family has been feeling pretty crummy this week. I have 2 boys (Jason and Jackson) with colds and 1 little boy with tummy issues so we went to see Dr. Bubba today.
Jackson killed time by reading books.
And Hudson killed time by, well sitting in his carseat.
Jackson has just a plain old cold (Praise the Lord-so glad it's nothing more serious.). Hudson has acid reflux. Bless his heart, we have had a rough couple of days. He has been so fussy which is not like him at all. He is also choking and screaming like he is in pain. Here we go with again-I'm getting flashbacks to all of Jackson's tummy issues. He gave him a Rx for Prevacid and was very optimistic that this will help him.
Jackson got his 2nd H1N1 shot as well as his seasonal flu vacine. He cried for a second and then he got up and said "I'm ok Mommy." Thats my tough guy. He got a sucker for being so brave and I took him to Sonic to get his favorite treat-a yummy chocolate milk shake!
We were so tired when we came home that we all took a LONG nap! (even Mommy!!!) Jackson woke up feeling a little better and Hudson got his first round of medicine...
...and he looks like he is feeling a little better too!
Tonight, I made grilled cheese and homemade chicken noodle soup for my sick boys....
...and we snuggled on the couch and watched "The Office". Hopefully we will be feeling better tomorrow!

Simple Valentine Cookies

Since I have been on maternity leave, I am trying to do some special projects with Jackson. Today's project was so yummy and so easy! I had seen this recipe on another blog at Christmas time and I had a coupon for the cookies so that was today's project. What will you need?
1 package of baked Pillsbury holiday cookies &...
...1 tub of icing and sprinkles. I used whipped icing and it worked perfect. (not too think...just right!)
Just spread the icing on the back of one cookie and sandwich them together to where the icing squeezes out. Then just roll the side of the cookies in the sprinkles. It was the perfect easy project to do with your kids...and it's yummy too! Enjoy.

Jackson's New Tricks

My mom and I have really been trying to teach Jackson some Bible verses. I am very surprised at how quickly he learns them. I have been wanting to video him doing this for a while so we bribed him rewarded him with a piece of chocolate to get him to sit still long enough to get it.
He has learned 4 so far. For those of you who don't speak 2 year-old as fluently as I do, this is what he is saying:

"For God so loved the world, he gave his only Son." John 3:16
"In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart." Proverbs 3:5
"The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want." Psalm 23:1

I am thinking the next verse we teach him will be "Honor your Father and Mother...". That would be perfect for time-outs.

Decisions, Decisions

Today, my sister-Shawn, my mom and I went to lunch at Muddy's (YUM!) to talk about her wedding. Shawn is getting married in April and I am so excited. She has some great ideas and I think it is going to be a beautiful and fun wedding (I can't wait)! I need your help guys. Her bridesmaid dresses look like this:

I am totally in love with it. I need help with what to do with my hair. I need to start "planning my look" (like getting trims, highlights...). What will look best with this dress? Do you like:

Updo #1:

The Miley Cyrus. A low messy updo with a side-swept bang. OR

Updo #2:

The Rachel Weisz. A loose side braid that is tucked under in the back with the hair completely off the face.

I am terrible at making decisions. Help me out!

2 Months Old

Hudson posing with his Birthday Bear

My sweet Hudson is 2 months old. I know this is so cliche'-but where does the time go? My boys are getting too old too quick!
We went to the Dr. today for our 2 month check-up and shots (yucky!). The picture above was taken before his shots, he had no idea what was about to hit him. He was so sweet at the Dr. He smiled and flirted with all the girls in the office and was so content when Dr. Bubba was poking and prodding him. He said that he was "perfect" and I have to agree with him. Then the shots...oh my, I have never heard a baby scream that loud. He was way louder that Jackson ever was! It took a little bit to calm him down but then he fell asleep for a good nap-He had a rough day.

2 month stats:
Height: 23.5 inches (80th percentile)
Weight: 11 lbs 1 oz. (5oth percentile)
Head Circumference: 38.5 cm (25th percentile)

What are you up to now?
You are growing like crazy. You are up 4.5 lbs and are 2.5 inches longer! You still wear 0-3 month clothes and they fit you great. You also wear size 1 diapers. (I hope you stay that size for a bit because we have a ton of that size from our church shower.) You are sleeping through the night. You take your last bottle at around 10 and then wake up close to 7-most of the time Jackson wakes up before you. You are beginning to like your bath-you love to splash your little arms and just smile your sweet, gummy smile. Tummy time-you are not a fan but you are doing ok with it, you are getting stronger by the day. You can follow things with your eyes and turn your head when you hear a noise. And you make Mommy and Daddy and Big Brother so proud. We love you more than you will ever know!

Good Big Brother

What a fun weekend we had. Saturday, we celebrated Christmas with our family from Nashville. We ate Bar-B-Q, the boys opened presents, and we played Apples to Apples.
While we were playing, Jackson got VERY quiet. That is never a good sign. I went to look for him and found him doing this...
He was feeding his babydoll "action figure" a bottle. How sweet is that? I asked him what his "action figures" name was and he said HudsonBoo. I went back to playing the game and a few minutes later, he comes around the corner to...
put his "action figure" in the bouncy seat. He is such a good big brother.

*FUNNY STORY*
The other day, we were at my Mom's house to visit everyone and get just out of the house for a little while. Jackson was playing with his "action figure" again. We had given him one of Hudson's newborn diapers to put on him since he couldn't fit in them anymore. As he was changing the diaper, I said...

Mommy: "Hey Jax, does your baby have a dirty diaper?"

Jackson: "No, He just has a skid mark."

Oh my word, I really need to start paying attention to what I say, don't I ?

Sleeping in!

Not only does Hudson look like his Daddy, he also has his sleeping habits (late nights-late mornings). It is 9 o'clock and he is still sleeping! Last night was the first time that he slept in his crib. He woke up at 4:30 for a bottle and went right back to sleep...

...and is still snoozing away! Yea (P.S.-check out that red hair...Where did that come from?)

Jackson on the other hand looks like me and has my sleeping pattern (early to bed-early to rise). Can you teach a child to sleep in?

Regression?

This morning as I have been doing some things around the house, I have found Jackson playing with Hudson's toys.

First, I found him playing with Hudson's floor gym...

...then he was watching tv in the Bumbo. Is this regression or just excited to see his old toys again?

"Blizzard" 2010

What a cold week we have had. If it is going to be this cold, I think there better be some snow involved. Yesterday, Jackson and I made snowman cookies as our project in hopes of having a real snowman in our yard today. (I have been trying to do special projects for just the 2 of us. I will have to post on that sometime.)

Jackson putting the M&M buttons on our nutterbutters dipped in white chocolate.

Showing me his yucky hands

Wouldn't you want to eat these?

This morning, when we looked out our window, we saw a tiny dusting. Hey, I'll take it. Glad we made those cookies though, those were the only snowmen that we will be seeing.

He had so much fun playing in the snow. He kept saying come on out Mom. I told him that I would stay on the covered porch and be the photographer. I didn't have as many layers on and I was FREEZING!

Jackson making a snowangel. He was so bundled up that I had to help him get off the ground. He had a long sleeve shirt, fleece footie pjs, ski overalls, winter coat, gloves, hat, and waterproof boots (did I go overboard?). He looked just like Randy from "A Christmas Story".

What did Hudson do while we were outside? Well, he stayed inside in his swing and watched me and Jackson play. Speaking of Hudson...

He is 7 weeks old today. I can't believe that he is that "old". I think he is already growing up too fast. (He was a little disgruntled during this picture. He has not been able to settle down and fall asleep today. I hope we aren't looking at a long night.)

Look What Came Today!

Christmas is offically over because I got my last present delievered today. My parents and my grandparents surprised my sister and me and got us both a new washer and dryer. It was such a surprise.

When we moved into our house, we inherited the old owner's washer and dryer. That was fine with us, we were newlyweds and didn't own anything big like that. What we got was a set that didn't match. It was actually the same mismatched set that my parents had when I was 5 (and it was old then)-dryer was an almond shade and the washer was white-same model and everything. What I got today was a matching, beautiful piece of machinery that has made my chores more enjoyable. (I have the first load in the washer now and I have a grin ear to ear. Who would have thought that laundry could be fun?)

Look at that washer...Hello gorgeous!

And look at all that room in there. I am notorious for cramming as much as I can into one load. I now still have room for more....Happiness!

Jackson is excited about it too....I mean look, it even has a light in the dryer. That was something that was not in my old set.

What else is great? My laundry room now smells like a new car. (I'm not joking). Jason will be lucky if he gets dinner tonight, I will be washing clothes! Now, if I could find someone to fold them, then I would be set. Any volunteers?
