Whats Goin On?

My what a bad blogger I have been. I have an excuse though, both my grandfather's have been in ICU. They are home and both are starting to feel better. Other than that I have been busy working on this...
...Jackson's birthday party. I know that his party is in 2 weeks but I want to get things done early. Hopefully soon I will have a Father's Day post up.

Now I Know My ABC's?

Since Jackson is almost 3, we have really been working on letter recognition. The video below is sums up how we are learning. The role of Mommy (Me) will be played my Matthew Perry and the role of Jackson will be played by Chris Farley...

(It also doesn't hurt that it has my favorite funny guy in it! Ya'll know how much I love Chris Farley!)

Jackson has the attention span of a gnat. If it is not something that interests him, he wants nothing to do with it! He can tell you a flat head screwdriver from a Phillip's head but he can not tell you what letter is A and which one is B.

Last night, we were sitting in the floor of the kitchen and we were playing with the magnet letters that I bought him (I got them thinking it would be a fun way to learn...). I got out an A and a B. I kept pointing and saying it out loud "This is A. This is B." Over and over-I then turned it over to him. Pointing to the letter A I asked, "Jackson, what letter is this?" He studied it for a little bit and then he said "It's a Q." Ummm...No. Apparently I would make a terrible teacher. Oh well, we will keep trying! Until then, I am getting a good laugh.

7 months

Hudson, How can you be 7 months old? You have changed so much this month. You are weighing in at 15 lbs. 4 oz. You are sitting up and have eaten some table food. You have had your 6th ear infection this month (Boo!). You are "trying" to crawl. You have found your voice and when you get excited you shriek squeal so loud.
You love to laugh but you think Jackson is the funniest thing ever. You just look at him and you start cracking up. You sure do love your big brother.
We are getting compliments on your eyelashes all the time. People sure do think you are the cutest thing and I have to agree. You know what else I think is cute?...
...I think that tooshy is pretty cute!

Happy 7 month birthday Hudson! I sure do love you little boy!

Engagement Story

Kelly is asking "How did you get engaged?", so here is our story.

Jason and I started dating in December of 2003. I knew very quickly that he was the man that I was going to marry. In 2004, we started looking at rings and seriously talking about the day we would get married and our future children-heck we already had Jackson named. However it took FOREVER to actually get engaged.

My birthday was in September and really thought it would be then. We got all dressed up and went to dinner at a nice restaurant (The Tower Room) but the evening came and went and still no ring. That weekend, I was sitting in the kitchen kinda bummed out talking to my Mom. I was grilling her to see if she would tell me if Jason had talked to them know being plain nosy. She had me convinced that he would probably ask me at Christmas. Man, my Mom is a better liar than I thought because Jason had already asked for my hand in marriage and she knew when it would be.

So, October 7th, 2005, Jason's work had closed for the first Friday of the month and he asked if I could take off with him. We had a laid back day, went to eat lunch at Ruby Tuesday and then we to the Pink Palace Craft's Fair. We had a wonderful afternoon and as we were heading home we decided to go Downtown and shop in Peabody Place and get a bite to eat. We went back to my house (really my parents house, I still lived at home) to freshen up and then headed out. I kinda thought that he might ask me, so as he was driving, I was looking at his pockets to see if I could see anything "ring box" shaped. (He was one step ahead of me, right before we left, he went to take the ring out and put the box in his truck-Sneaky boy!) I again remembered what my mom had said and thought to myself "Oh yea, Christmas." And it was put in the back of my mind. We ate at a little pizza place and then went shopping-we each got a baseball hat and as we were leaving I mentioned that we should go to the top of the Peabody Hotel. (This was also his plan, but he liked that I said it so it would yet again throw me off and be unexpected.) When we got to the roof it was FREEZING so I was ready to leave however, Jason was not. He kept standing in one spot staring out....I was getting really mad! (little did I know that he was waiting for another couple to leave so we could be the only ones out there) I finally told him that he could stay out there and I would be in the hall waiting for him. Finally, he got me to come over and got down on one knee. I wish I could tell you what he said, but I can't but he did ask me to be his wife and then instead of letting him stand up, I got down on my knees to...I couldn't wait to kiss him! We were so excited that in the elevator, I told some random stranger, "Hey, we just got engaged." They weren't near as excited as we were. When we got in the car, of course we called all our family.
This is the night we got engaged in our "lucky hats"!
Oh and the ring, he did a GREAT job. Since we had gone to look at some, he knew what I liked, but I left the shape up to him. He choose round which was what I was secretly hoping for. I love my ring....and of course I love my husband too!

Hudson's baby dedication

Sunday was such a special day for our family. It was a day that we dedicated our precious Hudson to the Lord.As a family, we were able to affirm that the Lord is the one who gave us Hudson as a blessing. We also promised to teach his the scriptures at a young age, tell him about the Lord, and pray for him to come to know Christ. Our church family also verbally agreed to continue to teach our children the Word of God.
Then Hudson got his very own blue New Testament. I was so proud of Jackson too, he answered the questions that Bro. Jim asked him. We had a wonderful day-we are so thankful for all the blessings that the Lord has given us.

"Train a child up in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it."  Proverbs 22:6

This Morning

This morning, when I got home from some yard sales (and p.s. I was so glad to meet you Allyson . I felt like I was meeting a long lost friend!), Jackson and I had some quiet time together since he was the only one awake. We were going over his Bible verses that he had learned and he had a new take on Psalm 23:1. Instead of saying "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want." he said, "The Lord is my Shepherd, I have everything I need." Wow, my 2 year old got my attention with that. I love how little things he says, are ways the Lord is getting a hold of me!

Total Randomness and 2 Wins!

This month has been pretty busy. I decided to do a random blog of some of the things we have been up to (and I have forgotten to write about).

1. 2 weekends ago, I was working on this:
Jackson is "Star of the Month" in his class. He is so excited! Everytime I pick him up, he makes sure that I see his pictures.
I get a little misty when I think that this is the first time he will "Star of the Month" in his "school career". On another note, I went to pick him up early yesterday to take him to the Dr. and I was stopped by so many teachers, some who aren't even his teachers, and they made sure that I knew how much they loved him. They went on and on about how polite and sweet he was! Oh how far we have come in just a few months. I am so proud of him!

2. Jason and Jackson are peas in a pod when it comes to tools. Jason has a catalog of tools in his truck that Jackson "reads" on the way to school in the morning. I mean they are like Tim "the Toolman" Taylor from Home Improvement-they even grunt like him. Last Saturday, Jason and Jackson had a man-date to Home Depot. They have a free class for kids and Jackson built his first project.
He hammered everything in. Jason said he did better than most of the older kids that were doing the project.
He made a mini foosball table. He was so proud of it. I think they are going to start doing this on the first Saturday of every month!

3. Hudson has changed so much this week! It is amazing to see how quickly he is changing.
He is sitting up much better. He still has a little strength to gain but he doesn't topple over on his face near as often.
He is also trying to get his knees under his body when he is on his stomach. He rolls all over the place. And, he now has 2 teeth!

And I have also won 2 blog contests...
I won this precious onesie for Hudson from Rachel and the The Personalized Peacock. It looks precious on him. Thanks Rachel!
...and I won this cute bucket of goodies (chalkboard bucket, pack of coasters, and lavender scented eye pillow) from The Hip Hostess. I can't wait to relax with the eye pillow on tonight and I am going to use the chalkboard bucket for Jackson's 3rd birthday party. Check out their blog, they have some great parties that they have thrown and some wonderful ideas. Thanks Kim and Ashley!

So, that's what we have been up to. Now hopefully I can get back to blogging again.

There have been some big things happening in the Haynes' household this week. This week:
1. This little boy is officially potty trained! He has been exclusively in underwear for 2 weeks and has done so well. I tried a few months ago but his strong will won out- he wanted none of it. I threw in the towel and decided I would try when he was ready. He finally had enough of the diapers and decided to use the potty on his own, since then it has been all potty all the time. We are getting close to trying no diapers/pull-ups at nap/nightime. He wakes up dry but I'm not sure if I am ready to be changing sheets in the middle of the night.

2. Hudson has had his first taste of table food. When we went for Hudson's 6 month check-up, Dr. Bubba let us know Hudson could try some large pieces of table food to gnaw on. We had pizza the other night and let Hudson have some crust.
"Hey, what is this?"
"Hmm, lets put it in my mouth and give it a whirl."
"Oh yes, this is fabulous! Can I cram the whole piece of crust in my mouth? Lets try."

He LOVED it. He started shoving it in his mouth as fast as he could. I had to eventually take it away from him because I was afraid he was going to choke on it. He was FURIOUS at me. I told him he could have more the next time we have pizza. I think this boy is going to be a good eater!

3. And finally, Hudson is getting so big. Check out what I found last night...
Huds has his first tooth!!! We were sitting at Chick-fil-a and when I found it I was so excited.

Oh my word, how can so many things change in one week? They are growing up way to fast. Slow down boys!

Memorial Day 2010

Ok, so Memorial Day has been over for quite a while, but I'm still going to tell you what we did.

Friday, Jason got the day off so he got to stay home with the boys. (It also happened to be his 32nd birthday. What a birthday present...getting to kee 2 busy younguns. I think they wore him out) The boys came and ate lunch with me at Lenny's. I love to see them during my work day, but it sure does make it hard to go back to work.

Saturday, we went to see Jason's family in Brownsville. We ate a yummy lunch and then got in some pool time.
Hudson had fun, but I'm not sure he even knew he was in the pool. He was in the water for a total of 5 minutes (all of which consisted of him holding this steering wheel of his float and/or chewing it) and then he headed inside to take a nap on Jason's aunt. I think she was in hog heaven snuggling with that little boy-I know I am when I snuggle with him.
Jackson had a blast in the pool. He was a little timid about it at first but after he knew he could trust us to hold him he eased up a bit. He learned how to blow bubbles and kick his feet. He went down the slide and jumped in (with much coaxing). By the end of it, he was going between me and Jason, paddling his arms and kicking his legs. I'm seriously thinking about swimming lessons after his birthday in July.

When we got home, the boys were EXHAUSTED. They went to bed very easily. Jason put Hudson to bed and 30 minutes later, went in to check on him because he was making some odd noises. He woke me up and told me he thought he might have a fever. Sure enough, he had a fever of 104.
That scared this momma to death. I got on the phone with the Dr.s office. The nurse called me back and I was so glad to hear a familiar voice on the other end , my friend Lindy. I stayed up with Hudson that night and gave him Tylenol every 4 hours and he even got a taste of his first popsicle which he LOVED!!! He kept his fever for all of Sunday and most of Monday. I called Lindy again and we were about to take him to the Urgent care clinic when he turned into a different child. As quick as this "illness" came on, it left him. We went to my parents house that night for a cookout.
...see doesn't he look much happier/better?
Jackson had a fun day too. He got to ride his gator and learned to put it in 2nd gear which makes him FLY across the yard. I forgot to tell ya'll, I won his shirt in a blog contest. Isn't it the cutest? It came from If You Say Sew Gifts. Check out their stuff...They have some great stuff. (PS...Don't be surprised if you see it in 4th of July pics too)
Hudson had a little snuggle time with Mimi and then we packed up and headed home. We had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. I hope you guys did too!
