Fishing Time

We started our 4th of July holiday Saturday with the Bartlett Fishing Rodeo. Jackson has looked forward to fishing since last year and Hudson was VERY excited to be able to participate this year.
The morning started (way too) early at 6:00 am. In true Haynes fashion we were a few (or 30) minutes late. On the first cast in the water, we caught a nice size catfish. At this point, we had already caught more than we did last year, so we were calling it a success.
We fished and fished. Fishing was slowly losing the boys attention until something BIG happened. A nibble (or a huge chomp!). Jackson tried to reel it in but he was getting no where fast. With Jason's help, he caught a ginormous catfish!
My Dad and Jason had to wrestle it to the ground to get the hook out of it's mouth.
This is what Jackson caught last year...A piece or metal or concrete attached to a rope....
...And this is what we caught this year. The big fish weighed 8 lbs. 4 oz and the stringer was 13 lbs 6 oz. I would say today was much better!
Hudson was happy because he won a prize. His name was drawn and he got to take home a brand new cricket holder thingy.
And Jackson won a trophy for the Overall biggest fish of the day! He is so proud of his trophy. Such a fun way to kick-off our holiday!
